Aleksa Bečić appointed president of the Parliament of Montenegro

President of Democrats and holder of the list ‘Peace is our nation’, Mr Aleksa Bečić, was appointed today new president of the Parliament of Montenegro, with 45 votes for him and one against.

“It is an honor and privilege to be the first public functionary after the very first democratic change of power in Montenegro. Those who refused to vote should know that I will be fighting for them even more fiercely. I want the opposition to have better status than we had”, Mr Bečić said after taking an oath.

He said that parliament must be a true representation home of every citizen.

He said that war against organized crime and corruption had to be won.

“All things are transient. But Montenegro is eternal. May long live Montenegro”, Mr Bečić added.

Earlier today, members of the New Serbian Democracy and Democratic People’s Party once again showed disrespect for the state of Montenegro because they entered the hall when the state anthem was over.

Leader of URA, Mr Dritan Abazović, said that “today is a historic day for Montenegro”.

Member of Bosniak Party, Me Ervin Ibrahimović, said that his party would support Mr Bečić while SDP president, Mrs Draginja Vuksanović-Stanković said they would abstain. Mr Nik Đeljošaj said he would support Mr Bečić.

SD president and former president of the Parliament of Montenegro, Mr Ivan Brajović, said his party would abstain on voting for the president for the parliament.

One of the leaders of DF, Mr Milan Knežević, said he would Mr Bečić as president of the parliament and Mr Krivokapić as prime minister-designate. He had another message for the heads of Vijesti:

“Vijesti will not form our government”, Mr Knežević said.

President of the Movement for Changes, Mr Nebojša Medojević, was late because he had to take his wife to the Prosecutor’s Office.

Police have filed criminal charges against Mr Medojević’s wife on the violation of NCB measures.

“They won’t leave me alone! I am going to vote for Aleksa Bečić now”, Mr Meodjević wrote on his Facebook profile.

One of the leaders of DF, Mr Milan Knežević, said during constitutive session today that this alliance proposed Mr Aleksa Bečić as president of the parliament and Mr Zdravko Krivokapić as prime minister-designate.

Mr Miodrag Lekić is presiding over the session, as the oldest MP, while the youngest MP, Mr Maksim Vučinić and Secretary General of the Parliament, Mr Aleksandar Jovićević, will assist him.

After the constitutive session of the parliament, Montenegro’s president, Mr Milo Đukanović, is obliged to set the date of consultations with presidents of parliamentary parties in order to propose prime minister-designate, not later than 30 days.
