Another bank to be established soon

Procedure for the establishment of another bank in Montenegro is under way, said director of the Sector for Control of Banks in the Central Bank, Mr Dejan Vujačić.

In yesterday’ session of the Assembly Committee on Economy, Finances and Budget, Mr Vujačić said that the World Bank and International Monetary Fund had been pointing at the improvement of conditions for the establishment of financial institutions in Montenegro.

By means of the Proposal for the Law on Credit Institutions, initial capital of future banks had been increased from €5 million to €7,5 million.

“Investors show great interest in the establishment of banks in Montenegro. We want investors who have serious financial power, and €7,5 million will definitely eliminate those who aren’t able to support operation of the bank”, explained Mr Vujačić.

Mr Vujačić pointed out that banks were regarded as loan-shark institutions. CB representative says that they are the most important and healthiest part of financial system.

President of the Committee, Mr Predrag Sekulić, said that banks should show their vitality by reducing interest rates on loans for citizens and economy.

The Committee unanimously supported the proposal for the financial plan with the plan for the work of Energy Regulatory Agency for next year, as well as Proposal for the Law on the Protection of Deposit.
