Around 3.000 citizens have had their housing issue settled

More than 3.000 citizens of Montenegro have settled their hosing issues through three phases of “1000 + project”. Mr Marko Čanović, Director-General of the Directorate for Hosing development in the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism, said it was great result. He expects another 400 families to solve their housing issue in the fourth phase of the project.

This successful project started in 2010.

Applications for the fourth phase will start next year.

“Third phase of “1000+ project” is going according to plan and is already entering finishing phase. There were 1.054 applications. Around 498 will be settled”, said Mr Čanović.

Around 121 families out of 362 which have had their housing issues solved, belong to one of the priority groups – single parents, persons with disabilities, families whose member is a person with disabilities, households with children with disabilities and victims of domestic violence.

“We will soon have additional number of families which will have their housing issue settled – one of the biggest challenges”, said Mr Čanović.

Fourth phase will introduce some new things.

“In that context, public tender for all bidders will be constantly open. If a citizen gets the voucher, he/she will be able to buy any apartment on the market which meets the prescribed requirements. We also planned to ensure cooperation with private sector for equipping apartments. Of course, we need to get approval by European Development Bank first”, pointed out Mr Čanović.

Interest rate of this project is its greatest advantage. It was the lowest possible at the moment when the tender was invited. In the first phase of the project (2010-2012) interest rate amounted to 4,9%. In the second phase ( 2015-2017) it amounted to 3,99% and now in the third phase, interest rate amounts to 2,99%.

“We are going to offer some advantages in the fourth phase as well and they refer to lower costs of loan administration, more favorable life and non-life insurance conditions and by 50% cheaper public notary services. Housing loan with no mandatory participation is another advantage we intend to maintain”, concluded Mr Čanović.
