Around 90% of Montenegrin citizens have close ties with their country

According to the Eurobarometer research, carried out last month for the purposes of the European Parliament, people in Montenegro trust the European Union (47%) more than they trust Parliament (43%) or Government (42%).

The research has shown that 90% of people in Montenegro have very close ties with their country. When it comes to the EU, 54% said they have close ties with the EU.

Around 63% of people in Montenegro have a positive image of  the EU, whereas 18% of respondents have a negative image.

For 36% of respondents, EU membership means easier travelling, easier studying and working the EU Member States, whereas 16% of respondents believe it will guarantee peace.

Around 49% of average EU citizens are satisfied with the economic performance of their country.

Asked to assess current situation in national economy, 48% of Montenegrin citizens say that it is very good, whereas 47% think that it is very bad. As far as personal household is concerned, around 63% of citizens think that it is very good and 33% think it is bad.

Around 56% of citizens are satisfied with their job situation and 30% of citizens are very dissatisfied.

Asked about their economic expectations for the next twelve months, 37% of respondents think that the situation will be better whereas 35% of respondents think it will be worse.

According to 29% of respondent, unemployment is seen as the most important concern in Montenegro whereas 25% of respondents think it’s price growth, inflation and life expenditures. Social and healthcare protection were cited by 13% of respondents. Climate change and energy issues were mentioned by only 4% of respondents.

According to the research, Serbia is the only WB country whose citizens have more trust in the national government than in the EU.

As far as the image that the EU has in WB countries, Albania is at the top of the list – 81% of the citizens have a positive image of the EU, whereas only 3% of the citizens have a negative image of the EU .
