DNK

The automated exchange of DNA data, dactyloscopic data and vehicle registration data among nine countries of Southeast Europe will significantly facilitate investigation of criminal offences for the investigators. It will also assist in detecting true identity of missing people and unidentified human remains in accordance with the national legislation, writes Dnevne Novine daily.

Namely, at one of its sessions, the Government of Montenegro passed the proposal for the law confirming the agreement among the member countries of the Police Cooperation Convention for Southeast Europe on the automated exchange of DNA data, dactyloscopic data and vehicle registration data. By signing the Agreement, the member countries intend to strengthen cross-border police cooperation, particularly in prevention, investigation, detection or prosecution of criminal offences, provided for in the Police Cooperation Convention for Southeast Europe.

In that respect, the Agreement includes rules for automated exchange of DNA data, dactyloscopic data and vehicle registration data, as well as the exchange of available personal and case-related data in case of a hit. The Agreement was signed by nine member countries of the Police Cooperation Convention in Southeast Europe, that is, by Montenegro, Albania, Austria, Hungary, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Serbia, Romania and Moldova.

Each member country opens and keeps national DNA analysis files for the investigation of criminal offences and assisting in the identification of missing persons and unidentified human remains in accordance with the national legislation. Processing of data kept in those files is carried out in accordance with the Agreement, in compliance with the Police Cooperation Convention and the national legislation referring to data processing.
