Average salaries and pensions in Montenegro are the highest in WB region

Average salaries and pensions in Montenegro are the highest in the region of Western Balkans, said today Mr Duško Marković, the Prime Minister.

SDP member, Mr Raško Konjević, said that around 125.000 pensioners had minimum pension (€125).

“Minimum pension in Montenegro is the lowest in the region. Two trade unions have committed to adopting amendment to the law on Pension and Disability Insurance through social dialogue with the Government. Social council adopted harmonized amendments to this Law in the middle of this year. Even thought negotiations with the Trade union were successful, proposal for this law is still in the “drawer”. Why is that so?”, asked Mr Konjević.

Mr Marković said that social dialogue in Montenegro was one of the best in the region and in Europe.

“Average salaries and pensions are higher only in Slovenia and Croatia”, said Mr Marković.

EU agrees that social dialogue in Montenegro is the best in the region and in Europe.

“We agreed that our country was the example of economically and socially responsible society”, said Mr Marković.

PM said that pension system in Montenegro represented the most important part of its economic, financial and social system and that maintenance thereof was a challenge in many countries.

Mr Marković added that other funds were earmarked as well.

“The situation isn’t that bad. Considerable funds are earmarked every year for the support programs for the pensioners”, said Mr Marković.
