Bečić and URA to sit on the Committee soon

Representatives of a part of the opposition on the Committee on the Reform of Electoral and Other Legislation are supposed to submit draft amendments to the decision on the formation of this ad hoc body in the coming days.

Adoption of this decision would assume that Democratic Montenegro might enter the Committee, with the support of URA and mediation of diplomats from specific western embassies.

Mr Belić’s and Mr Abazović’ party have been categorically refusing to enter this ad hoc body, stating that no negotiations with DPS will ever come into consideration. They have even announced formation of parallel bodies and round tables to deal with electoral legislation.

“Dan” daily published yesterday that DPS had agreed that decisions on the Assembly Committee on the Reform of Electoral and Other Legislation should be rendered by four-fifths instead of two-thirds majority. In return, representatives of Democrats and URA agreed to delegate two members to the Committee.

Four-fifths decision-making process means that no decision will be rendered until Bečić’s party gives the green light.

“Dan” also published that the plan presented to the EU Commissionaire, Mr Johannes Hahn, had been the basis for talks.

Activities of the Committee have been blocked for more than six months, following the arrest of the member of Democratic Front, Mr Nebojša Medojević.
