The best days for Montenegro are yet to come

In interview with the Pogled magazine, prime minister Dusko Markovic said he believes that the country can get closer to the living standard of the most developed countries in Europe much more quickly. He is convinced that the best days for Montenegro are yet to come.

“The challenges Montenegro government is facing are not related to a single government’s term of office. It is rather a part of a wider process that has opened and boosted our economy over the past years. This process has gained particular momentum after the restoration of state independence. In the last 11 months, my government has been fully committed to the dynamism of economic growth, which will equally encompass every region of Montenegro, but also all segments of society,” Markovic said.

He added that the government was working on strengthening the environment for the development of the economy, and providing opportunities for success to all who are ready to try entrepreneurship and business.

“According to the recent World Economic Forum Report on the Global Competitiveness Index, Montenegro has been ranked five places higher compared to the previous year. The strengthening of the institutions, the construction of infrastructure, the efficiency of the commodity market and the labour market, as well as the financial market have contributed to this,” the prime minister said.

Markovic pointed out that new and better jobs were the result of a favourable economic environment.

“The average number of employees in the first seven months of this year was over 183,000, which is close to 7,000 employees more than in the same period of 2016,” said Markovic.

The prime minister said that “the rise in employment led to the growth of living standard which reflected in the growth of earnings”. He added that in the first seven months of this year, the average net salary amounted to €510 – the highest in the region.
