Bošković: Security incident at U.S. Embassy is a specific case

Montenegrin defense minister Predrag Bošković said that a security incident in the U.S. Embassy in Podgorica represented a specific case, and that Montenegro has been ready to protect its diplomatic missions. He also pointed out that his country has been greatly contributing to global peace in both, the NATO-led missions and those under the EU and UN.

“Montenegro had somewhat greater influx of migrants in 2018 and that trend continued in 2019. That’s why the Army patrols control the border in order to prevent illegal crossings. Our Army is ready to protect the diplomatic missions and so it will be in the future,” minister Boskovic stressed.

In an interview with Voice Of America (VOA), Mr Bošković said that for the time being, the Ministry of Defense does not plan to deploy more military officers in Kosovo, but he himself has been closely monitoring the situation. “In 2019, Montenegro will have its forces in the Iraq mission, as it’s in the interest of the international community and the Army of Montenegro as well.”

When asked whether he planned to deploy more troops in the mission in Kosovo, minister Bošković told Montenegro last year increased the number of its military officers in the international missions.
