Broadband speed: Montenegro not lagging behind Europe

Broadband speed in Montenegro isn’t lower that the one in the region or in Europe, stated the Agency for Electronic Communication and Postal Services (EKIP).

British web page cable.co.uk published data collected by the M Lab group according to which Montenegro has the slowest internet in Ex-Yugoslavia, ranking 71st out of 189 countries.

Montenegrin telecommunication companies believe that these data are too general.

“EKIP believes that internet access speed in Montenegro is not lower than the one in the region or in Europe and that it is in accordance with trends at the electronic communications market. All electronic communication services are available to Montenegrins, just as they are in the region and in Europe” EKIP executive director Darko Grgurovic told Pobjeda newspaper.

Crnogorski Telekom representatives stated that data obtained in M Lab’s research are too general. “We don’t know whether data refer to landline of landline and mobile broadband internet, and which stake does each Montenegrin operator individually have in the whole result. We want to point out that Crnogorski Telekom offers significantly higher internet speed to its customers that the one listed in M Lab’s research”, stated Crnogorski Telekom.

Telenor representatives said that this company was constantly investing in introducing the latest technologies so that it can offer high quality services and great coverage to its customers.

“Technical measurements carried out in Telenor show that data transfer speed using mobile internet in Montenegro is at the same level as the one in countries in which our company operates”, stated Telenor.
