Chinese company CRBC which is in charge of the construction of the first highway in Montenegro expanded the field of its operation to Croatia. The contract on the construction of Pelješki most was signed in Dubrovnik today.
CRBC has been working in the countries of Balkans for several years. Besides the construction of the highway in Montenegro, it’s engaged in Serbia too, for the construction of infrastructure projects. At the beginning of 2018, this company started the implementation of the Chinese-Serbian industrial park in the settlement of Borča, Belgrade. The construction of the park is supposed to begin this year.
But why is China so interested in Balkan countries?
Economic analysts said earlier that Chinese invest in the infrastructure in the Balkans because that way, they reach the markets of the Northwest Europe more easily, and they also use Balkans as a complement for the trade with the EU countries. Also, Chinese credits offer an alternative to the countries of the West Balkans, in the sense that these countries can avoid the integration mechanisms required by the EU. Therefore, it’s obvious that the interests of China, a country that disposes of a great capital, refer to the penetration to the markets all around the world and extending its influence.
