The European Union, EU, didn’t fund the Možura wind farm and expects “a credible, independent and effective institutional response to any allegation of corruption,” said EU Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement, Mr Olivér Várhelyi.

The Commissioner noted this in response to a parliamentary question about the reporting of the murdered Maltese journalist, Ms Daphne Caruana Galizia, regarding the role of a company called ‘17 Black’ in the sale of wind farms in Možura to the Maltese company ‘Enemalta’, through Cifidex from Seychelles, the RTCG Portal reports.

The Commissioner also underlines that the rule of law is one of the EU fundamental values and a crucial element in the accession process, which determines the overall pace of Montenegro’s accession to EU talks.

“Montenegro is expected to produce positive and efficient results of investigations, prosecutions and convictions in cases of corruption and organized crime,” Mr Várhelyi’s replied.

He also points out that the Commission is closely monitoring Montenegro’s progress in these areas, through the enlargement package adopted by the Commission in October, and expects any allegations of corruption to receive a credible, independent and effective institutional response.
