Conditions for fair and free elections already exist

Miloš Nikolić

Member of the Democratic Party of Socialists, (DPS), Mr Miloš Nikolić, thinks that conditions for fair and free elections already exist. However, he didn’t want to comment on the offer for the opposition Mr Duško Marković has been announcing for a while. He said that more details would be available after Congress.

Prime Minister announced an offer for the opposition, which he wants to make after the Congress, that is, at the end of the year. Do you think that one month is enough time for the laws to be amended and conditions for fair and free elections to be created?

Mr Nikolić: Conditions for fair and free elections in Montenegro already exist. Of course, there’s always room for improvement. We are already preparing some solutions and we are ready to welcome our opposition so that we can work together.

Opposition political subjects said they would keep boycotting parliamentary elections if the electoral legislation wasn’t changed. Does DPS fear that elections might not be held?

Mr Nikolić: DPS is ready to follow the challenges and to respond to them duly. Details of the offer will be available after careful consideration of party authorities. As you probably know, preparations for the Party Congress are underway and that’s what we are focused on.

Are you aware of the political crisis in Montenegro? What’s the potential solution to it?

Mr Nikolić: I’d say there’s no political crisis in Montenegro. There are only obstructions created by the opposition which don’t produce any results. DPS will keep working hard on achieving results in the area of economy, rule of law, structural reforms and integration process.
