Criticism is for the good of Montenegro

Aivo Orav

Parliamentary elections in Montenegro are scheduled for the next year, and something has to be done in that context. Parties that have presented their plan in Brussels do not want to carry it out now, said the Head of the EU delegation, Mr Aivo Orav.

At the conference devoted to the seven years of negotiations between Montenegro and EU, Mr Orav said that the Committee on Further Reform of Electoral and other laws was still the best place for dialogue.

He hopes that the EC Report on Montenegro will be shorter and shorter every year.

“We aren’t criticizing just like that, we want to help. Discussing about the EC Report, whether it is good or not so good, will not lead Montenegro into EU. We have to convince skeptical EU Member States to accept Montenegro into the membership. There might even be a referendum on the accession. We shouldn’t discount that possibility. And they might say: “Thanks, but we don’t want this country”. We are pointing out things that must be improved”, said Mr Orav.
