Damjanović: WB countries need EIT centers

Science Minister, Ms Sanja Damjanović, took part in the main panel discussion of INNOVEIT conference in Budapest yesterday. This conference is organized every year by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). Ms Damjanović handed out awards for innovation in one of the categories and said that EIT was a great incentive to innovation in Europe.

“Our young people, representatives of business sectors as well as start-ups, took part in EIT schools, competitions and events, and it significantly contributed to their way of thinking and working”, said Ms Damjanović.

She hopes Director General of the European Commission for Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR) will find way to support development of innovation centers of this institute in WB countries.

Minister pointed out that EIT, as networked institute, and CERN, as infrastructure, were examples of how entrepreneurship and academic community can work together and spread innovation and entrepreneurship culture.

“It’s exciting to notice how progress in the domain of robotics, chemistry and food science, energy and ICT, science of data and artificial intelligence and machine engineering, contribute to important innovation”, said Ms Damjanović.

She said she came  from a small WB country, country that had just started to apply innovation policies and develop and connect its innovation eco-system. She added that it was a great satisfaction for us to notice how those policies changed the Community of Knowledge and Innovation.

EIT Venture award went to the finalist whose tea is developing a unique technology which converts wave energy in an efficient and sustainable manner.

EIT innovation model was created to efficiently transform European innovation ambiance, remedying  market and systemic shortcomings regardless of what sectors and disciplines they refer to.
