Data roaming charges still in force

When asked if abolishing roaming fees for end users in the countries of region was possible, The Agency for Electronic Communications and Postal Services, EKIP, told Dan daily that no European Union (EU) state ever eliminated fees for calls, texting and browsing the internet on mobile devices, but mobile users paid these services at the same price they were paying them at home.

At the recently held Digital Summit in Skopje, Macedonia, CEO of the Communications Regulatory Agency in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Predrag Kovač, mentioned that there’s an agreement between the four countries of the region (Montenegro, B&H, Serbia and Macedonia) to align the prices of roaming in these countries.

Crnogorski Telekom, on the other hand, says for now this would be impossible as the country’s legislation stipulates other rules.

Even if Montenegro abolishes roaming charges, that would trigger a short-term benefit for end users and negative impact on long-term competitiveness on market. “It’s obvious small carriers and countries with small revenues would sustain loss,” they explained.

In case the end of roaming charges happens for users within the countries of region, the company will put out timely statement in this regard, Crnogorski Telekom said.
