Diaspora may boost the country’s economic growth

The Council for Cooperation with Emigrants yesterday adopted the Declaration on Montenegro’s Future in the European Union (EU).

Vice-president to the Council, Boris Popivoda, said this document reflected views of emigrants from Montenegro, as well as those of citizens of the EU member states, who believed the future of Montenegro is in the EU. The Council and each of its member expressed interest to act in their own states so that Montenegro might accede to the EU ASAP.

“Montenegrin communities in the EU are of great political and economic importance and are strongly commited to EU integrations,” Popovoda added.

Special envoy of the President of Montenegro, Milan Roćen, claims that diaspora can play a significant role in boosting economic growth, just as it did when the country restored its independence.

“Emigrants will have a more active role in this new phase of the country’s development, especially in creating social, economic and political processes and flows,” Roćen concluded.
