Dissatisfaction of Belgrade: Attacking Montenegro because of their own weakness

Beograd

Dissatisfaction of the official Belgrade that has lasted for days, aimed at creating the image of Serbs in Montenegro being endangered, is actually an attempt of Mr Aleksandar Vučić, President of Serbia, to mask his own weakness by inventing the problem in Montenegro. Mr Vučić has been repeatedly saying that he wouldn’t allow plundering. All this because of the announcement that Montenegro is going to renew Montenegrin Orthodox Church.

Well-known journalist from Belgrade and global trends analyst, Mr Boško Jakšić, says he actually knows what the background is.

“It’s Mr Vučić’s need for improving the relations with the Serbian Orthodox Church that have been infringed when the Church refused to accept Vučić’s motion concerning the demarcation with Kosovo. Now, Mr Vučić will support the Serbian Orthodox Church, while expecting it not to be so opposed to his Kosovo policy in return”, says Mr Jakšić.

Kosovo is of crucial importance in internal and foreign policy of Serbia, adds Mr Jakšić. As long as this issue is unsettled, anything could happen.

He says that it’s so sad that Serbia, a secular state, let inter-church relations determine the inter-state relations.

“Obviously, Serbia hasn’t learned a lesson from the former relationship it had with Macedonia. I think that the government should allow church to settle the problems within it, without meddling”, says Jakšić for CdM.

Sociologist of culture, Mr Ratko Božović, thinks tensions must be eased. According to him, this whole story shouldn’t be paid much attention. Commenting on the assertions that Serbian people in Montenegro are endangered, Mr Božović says that this story shouldn’t take on political dimension.

“I think it’s not good if a stereotype of this is produced. The most important thing is that every citizen feels good and safe, regardless on his/her nationality. We are prone to exaggerating things. We shouldn’t be doing that. I wish there weren’t such problems, we don’t need them, especially as we are headed towards EU”, says Mr Božović.
