Drljević: Entire society will join the EU, all its segments should integrate

As we have pointed out several times, not only Government or an individual or one institution joins the EU, but the entire society, all segments of it. We should all together understand that this is process for Montenegro’s well-being and that everybody should assume their own part of responsibility and contribute to our ultimate goal – EU membership – said chief EU negotiator, Mr Alekandar Drljević, on the occasion of marking 8th anniversary of negotiations.

If we understand the process that way, if we continue to work diligently, Mr Drljević believes that we will be able to complete the negotiating process during this term if office of Brussels.

“Montenegro welcomes the 8th anniversary of negotiations with every chapter open and with three temporarily closed chapters. With the last chapter officially open, Brussels administration has shown that enlargement policy remains active in these difficult times when we are all faced with coronavirus pandemic”, Mr Drljević said.

So far, Montenegro has achieved great results. It is important now to show that our institutions and our legislative framework are absolutely functional, Mr Drljević added.

“There’s still a lot to be done in the next negotiating phase. By that, I mean the area of rule of law and chapters 23 and 24 which will remain in the focus of our attention. Some segments evidently need further improvement, especially domain of political criteria, where it is crucial that some challenges that lie ahead are in the focus of out attention”, Mr Drljević explained.
