Đukanović: This is the country of heroes, supreme sacrifice of our ancestors’ achievements

Montenegro is celebrating July 13th of 1941 and July 13th of 1878. President, Milo Đukanovič, said at the Academy that state policy of Montenegro, system of values we adopt and the successes we’ve achieved have strong foundations in the civilization heritage of anti-fascism.

“This is a big date. International state recognition, founded in the famous battle in Grahovac,  was confirmed 140 years ago at the Berlin Congress. We are proud of the historical feat of our generation at the referendum in 2006, when we renewed our country through the diplomatic battle. Today, we are celebrating July 13th of 1941 and July 13th of 1878, worthy and proud of our ancestors’ achievements”, said Đukanović.

The 13 July Uprising was unique in many ways.

“It was the first anti-fascist uprising in the Europe enslaved by the Nazi. Practically the entire country raised in one single moment. Such revolt brought the image and reputation of Montenegro to the highest level in its history. The Uprising echoed strongly across the Balkans, but also across Europe and whole world. As Radio Moscow said on July, 16, 1941 „Montenegrin people will never be slaves!”, reminds Đukanović.

This year will be 75 years since two most audacious battles of Montenegrin and Yugoslav battles – battles on Neretva and Sutjeska.

According to Đukanović, anti-fascism is that lever of history which is the reason why social revival happens. Without it, there wouldn’t be state revival of Montenegro.

“Anti-fascism is the first, fundamental basis of the existence of Montenegro”, says Đukanović.

Montenegro will keep deepening reform and European accession processes with even more vigor and ambition.

“Montenegro is not in front of the vision anymore. It is living its vision now, it just isn’t materialized enough. Montenegro is modern and democratic, secular and civic, Mediterranean and European country“, said Đukanović.

He firmly believes in that epochal transformation and results of the European Montenegro.

“Today I’m bowing down to immortals, heroes, known and unknown, to Montenegrin constructors, enligheteners and statesmen, to all those who defended Montenegro and fought for it. May eternal be Montenegro!”, said the President.
