€1.4bn for environmental negotiations

Saša Radulović

The creation of the negotiating position of Montenegro in the process of accession to the European Union will define the obligations and deadlines, as well as the environmental investments that should be fulfilled on this path, said the state secretary in the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism and the negotiator for Chapter 27 Environment Sasa Radulovic.

In an interview with Dnevne Novine, he announced a series of activities the state should perform this year to start negotiations in one of three chapters that have not been opened yet.

“The opening of the chapters should take place by the end of June this year. Currently, the so-called common position is being prepared based on our negotiating position. The real challenge is meeting all the criteria, ie closing the chapter. The assessment is that it takes €1.4bn in financial terms and other comprehensive assistance. The Ministry of Sustainable Development and Tourism is working intensively to update the financial projection and the total list of investments that are necessary in order to meet the criteria,” he said.
