Economic freedom of Montenegro has increased

The 2018 Index of Economic Freedom of the World has been pretty much encouraging when it comes to Montenegro’s ranking. Nevertheless, we should take it seriously as economic freedom of countries is still endangered by the emergence of the nationalistic tendencies not just in Europe, but worldwide. According to the latest report and based on the 2016 data, economic freedom of Montenegro has increased, now holding the 72nd place, compared to its position in 2016 and the 90th place, writes Vijesti.

According to the 2018 Report, Montenegro’s economic freedom score now is 64.3 due to a better situation in the following categories: government size (1.95↑), judicial effectiveness and property rights (0.09↑) and freedom in international trade flows (0.02↑). The main challenges are still in the following categories: currency firmness (-0.13↓) and regulations (0.41↓).

The 2018 Index of Economic Freedom is based on data from 2016. It’s important to know that the 2016 data were the only available and eligible ones for the authors who afterwards developed a thorough comparative analysis.
