EUR 107 million for main roads reconstruction

According to the head of the Transport Directorate, Savo Parača, construction works on the Cetinje-Budva main road, the reconstruction works on the roads Cetinje-Njeguši, Petrovići-Vraćenovići and Crkvice-Vrulja as well as adding of a third lane Lepenac, will be completed by the beginning of tourism season.

He also said works related to other projects will be performed as planned by signed contracts.

Mr Paraca mentioned the Road Reconstruction and Improvement Project and its goal to construct modern, efficient and reliable road infrastructure. The total value of current works on Montenegrin roads amounts to EUR 107 million, according to Parača.

“We are currently performing works on 3 places from Podgorica to Budva. By mid-May, we will complete works on the Košljun-Zavala project (1.8 km) and Brajići-Lapčići project (7.6 km). The completion of these works will mean completion of the entire road from Podgorica, that is, from the Sitnica bridge to Budva (a total length of 60 kilometers),” Parača told Pobjeda daily.

Parača recalled that the reconstruction project of the section from Cetinje traffic lights to the Sitnica bridge, a total length of 3.5 kilometers, started in the end of last year and is due finish by the end of this year.

Since 2015, there have been around 10 projects on the Podgorica-Budva main road: on a 4 km road in Barutana, a 6.6 km road in Ulići, on the Obzovići-Brajići section (a total length of 4 km), reconstruction of the Mekavac tunnel totaling 180 meters, with the third lane 500 meters long, in Markovići (3.6 kilometers), the Ulići-Cetinje-Ugnji section (5.5 km), on the third lane in Ugnji (1.3 km) including the third lane rehabilitation on Obzovica (3 km).

The total value of all construction works on the Podgorica-Budva main road amounted to EUR 27 million, whereas funds were provided by the state budget.

In case you have a fascination with the open roads, Montenegro would be the right choice, as its roads are of the same quality as the regional, although still far from the European ones, said Parača.
