Excise on carbonated drinks has brought €2,25 million to the state

Darko Radunović

Collection of excise on carbonated water with added sugar amounted €2,25 million in the first four months of the year. That’s €700.000 more than in the same period last year, said yesterday Minister of Finance, Mr Darko Radunović.

He thinks that reduction of excise products subject to excise duty requires detailed analyses, considering the economic and fiscal policy priorities.

“Higher collection has been projected. About €2 million higher in comparison to the last year”, said Mr Radunović, answering the question asked by the Member of Parliament, Mrs Marta Šćepanović.

Minister Radunović reminded that the Law on Excise had been amended and that the new excise calendar was an instrument for equalizing prices on the domestic market with the prices on the regional market.

As far as the capital market is concerned, Minister agrees that trust in stock exchange trading should be restored. Last year’s turnover amounted €147 million. Independent MP, Mr Aleksandar Damjanović, thinks this data is partially true.

Mr Damjanović has met recently with the Prime Minister, Mr Duško Marković, and they spoke about the privatization of the “Simo Milošević” Institute, Riviera Budva and the Saltworks in Ulcinj. Member of Democratic Front, Mr Nebojša Medojević, thinks that selling majority shares of the Institute to the consortium Phillbert and Villa Oliva for €10 million is very low.

“Why accept the offer which is lower than the liquidation value of the company?”, pointed out Mr Medojević.
