Far away is the sun: Vučić and Serbia are braking the region

Although Serbian president, Aleksandar Vučić, claims that it’s not true that Serbia has sharpened the relations with Zagreb, Priština, Podgorica, Skopje and Sarajevo, regional analysts and politicians, as well as European officials are confuting his statements. It’s obvious that the European journey of Western Balkans depends mostly on further actions of Serbia and Vučić.

“As far as WB is concerned, it all depends on whether Aleksandar Vučić will make a decision for the future of Serbia or whether all WB countries will remain hostages of his constant return to the past and mythology”, said Jelko Kacin, Ambassador of Slovenia to NATO and former Member of the European Parliament and a Rapporteur for Serbia.

President of Montenegro, Milo Đukanović, said in the TV show “Živa istina” that relations between Serbia and its neighbors were becoming sharper and sharper.

Vučić replied that Serbia hadn’t affected the circumstances in the region in any way. Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Milorad Dodik, also defended Serbia from this “attack” by saying that Đukanović shouldn’t involve and hold lectures to Serbia.

The worst relations are between Belgrade and Priština and it’s been so for quite a while.

President of the Liberal party, Andrija Popović, says that poor relations between Serbia and its neighbors shouldn’t be exaggerated, especially not with those neighbors it used to be in a state union. He believes that after the European elections in 2019, a new scenario for the future of WB will be created, Serbia will be offered some sort of the announced form of EU accession and that would mean normalization of relations with Kosovo and so long-awaited peace at the Balkans.

Azem Vlasi, an analyst from Kosovo, commented recently on the relations in the region and said that Belgrade and regime media were purposefully spreading the propaganda about the alleged tensions.

Croatian analyst Davor Đenero said that problems in Balkans were generated by those countries who had lost the ambition to fulfill the requirements for the EU membership.

Such claims confute Vučić’s statement that Serbia isn’t braking the region.
