There have been 5.397 pieces of counterfeit money in Montenegro in the eight months of 2019, said the representatives of the Central Bank of Montenegro.

A total of 5.397 pieces of counterfeit money have been processed in the technical analysis procedure. Around 398 counterfeit banknotes have been discovered with a total value of €25.935 and 4.989 pieces of fake coins with a total value of €9.875.

According to the data collected by the CB, the €2, €20 and €50 are the most forged denominations.

What countries does the fake money come from? Representatives of the CB declined to respond.

“We can’t say because that matter is outside our jurisdiction”.

Asked if merchants, taxi drivers and others should have counterfeit detection devices, representatives of CB say that it is impossible to provide such devices everywhere.

They offer some instructions to the citizens so that they can recognize counterfeit money.

Decisions adopted by the Central Bank increase the protection from counterfeit money. National regulations are completely harmonized with the EU regulations.
