For five years almost 200 million EUR invested in roads

In the last five years, a total of 197,84 million EUR was invested in maintenance, reconstruction and construction of regional and trunk roads in Montenegro, said the director of the Directorate for state roads within the Ministry of Transport, Mirsad Ibrahimović. As he said, had an impact on more comfortable, economic, safer and high-quality transport and, therefore, resulted in better accessibility of Montenegro as tourism destination.

“Montenegro has significantly improved transport infrastructure. However, it is still behind the needs of contemporary dynamic economy and additional investments are necessary”, said Ibrahimović for “Pobjeda”.

Constant changes that national economies of Balkan countries are faced with, require defining clear vision, missions and strategies of the development of transportation system in order to provide sustainable economic growth and development of the entire region.

“The European Commission also recognized insufficiently developed infrastructure of Western Balkans. It therefore aims to increase the maturity of projects and enhance the development of transport network through the available mechanisms of Berlin process”, says Ibrahimović.

The Government adopted Single List of Priority Infrastructure Projects at the end of 2015, and then the updated one from 30 July last year which among many other projects includes 12 projects from the sector of transport with total estimated value of investment in the amount of 3,38 billion EUR.

“Two key infrastructure projects in Montenegro are Bar-Boljare highway and Adriatic-Ionian road motorway along Montenegrin seaside”, said Ibrahimović.

He believes that these two priority infrastructure projects should ensure better regional connection of Montenegro. As he says, 30 million EUR budget is planned for the management, construction, reconstruction, maintenance  and protection of regional and trunk roads in Montenegro.
