Government earmarks €21 million for Montenegro Airlines

Montenegro’s Government has earmarked €21 million for the purposes of the consolidation of Montenegro Airlines, said Minister of Finance, Mr Darko Radunović, while adding that the national airline company contributed to tourism and growth in budget revenues.

“We’re working on creating conditions for not applying the Law on State Aid. We are witnessing huge state protectionism and that must be acknowledged. We must acknowledge the importance of some companies which perform public interest in the economic sense and add to the budget. Despite the problems, MA generates around €70 million of revenues annually. More than 400 people work in MA, we have got 220 licensed persons. Indirect revenue should be approximately €250 million”, said Minister.

Mr Radunović  pointed out that Montenegro “is an air destination” with over 2,5 million air passengers and 30% of the total number travelling with MA.

“This is why MA should be a sustainable company, and it is. Therefore, we must put efforts in its consolidation. We definitely will”, concluded Mr Radunović.
