Healthcare workers to take priority in “1000+ Project”

Marko Čanović

Montenegrin healthcare workers will take priority in the purchase of apartments in the fourth phase of “1000 + project”, said to Pobjeda Mr Marko Čanović, director general of the directorate for housing development.

The fourth phase of the project is underway and public tender for banks and apartment bidders will be submitted by the end of August.

“After careful consideration of all circumstances, it has been decided that healthcare workers in Montenegro take priority in the fourth phase, having regard to the burden they have been carrying in COVID-19 crisis”, Mr Čanović said.

He adds that more detailed requirements on the priorities will be defined through Public tender for citizens.

“What we know for sure now is that requirements will be either the same of more favorable than in the previous phase – 2,99% interest rate and €1.100 per square meter”, Mr Čanović explained.

“1000+ Project” is the project of social housing for citizens with middle and low earnings who are not able to settle their housing issues.

“This successful story started in 2010. Today, 10 years later, the fourth phase is being implemented. Considering the interest citizens have in settling their housing issues, the Government has continued cooperation with the Development Bank, with the aim of providing additional credit line”, Mr Čanović said.

Total value of the fourth phase is €20 million.

In the third phase, 377 households solved their housing issue.

So far, around 1200 households have solved one of the most important life issues, through three phases of this project. Additional 400 families are expected to bring their housing problems to an end in the fourth project.

From the very beginning, special attention was focused on the vulnerable category.

“So far, a total of 191 priority persons have solved their housing issues: single parents (foster parents), persons with disabilities, households that have one person with disability, families with children with development disabilities, persons deprived of parents’ care and persons who were victims of domestic violence”, Mr Čanović said.

A citizen can buy any apartment on the market

Mr Čanović announced news in the fourth phase of the project.

“Public tender for bidders of housing facilities which have already been constructed will be open. That means that winner of voucher will be able to apply for the purchase of the apartment he/she finds on the market and or buy it through “1000+ project”. Citizens will also be able to settle their housing issues in municipalities where there are now apartments in new-construction”, Mr Čanović pointed out.

According to expectations, this will reduce prices in new construction.
