Construction of thermal power plant’s second block for eco-friendly Pljevlja, Jovanovic

Executive director of the Functional unit of Production within the Electric Power Company of Montenegro (EPCG), Luka Jovanovic, says by implementing the project for ecological construction of the first block in the Thermal Power Plant Pljevlja (TE Pljevlja), Montenegro becomes the first country in the region to implement technical and ecological reconstruction of a 38-year-old facility. He also says Montenegro plans to build a heating station in order to intensify the heating process and thus resolve the ecological isses of Pljevlja.

The decision on ecological reconstruction worth €40m and heating generation in Pljevlja was made due to the termination of cooperation with the Czech company Skoda Praha. The Czech company didn’t offer any acceptable financing model to Montenegrin government referring to the construction of the TE Pljevlja second block.

Meanwhile, upgrading and reconstruction of the existing equipment is to be performed so that the EU directives in terms of air, water and soil quality standards could be met. By applying the new EU directives, all the thermal power plants in the period from January 2018 to December 2023 will be able to operate a total of 20,000 hours.
