Montenegro ranks 50th on Forbes’ list of the best countries for business

Montenegro has ranked 50th on the 2017 Forbes’ list of the best countries to do business in, which is one place down compared to 2016.

Forbes has compiled this list by assessing 139 nations across 11 criteria: property rights, innovation, taxes, technology, corruption, freedom (personal, trade and monetary), red tape, investor protection and stock market performance.

Despite the slight fall on the list, Montenegro has improved certain criteria according to which the ranking was done.

Monetary freedom and investor protection are the biggest advantages of Montenegro, whereas property rights and innovation are the issues that require investing additional efforts.

According to the Forbes list, the best country for business in 2017 is Sweden. It is followed by New Zealand, Hong Kong, Ireland and the United Kingdom. The first ten best countries for doing business include Denmark, the Netherlands, Finland, Norway and Canada. As many as 18 European countries are among the top 25 in the rankings.

Chad is at the bottom of the list. Haiti, Yemen, Venezuela, Laos, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zimbabwe, Algeria and Ethiopia have been ranked the lowest on the list.

When it comes to the region, Slovenia, Macedonia and Croatia have been better ranked than Montenegro: Slovenia (20th), Macedonia (35th) and Croatia (46th).
