Markovic: Montenegrins pay the highest price to be on their own

Prime minister Dusko Markovic has organised a reception on the occasion of Independence Day tonight. He has said that preserving independence is the sacred duty of every Montenegrin.

“Independence could not be restored without wisdom and patience. On 5 June, we will be a member of the most powerful alliance today. There will be no deciding about the fate our country behind our back ever again. Montenegrins have paid the highest price to be on their own for centuries. Sometimes law and justice failed and we must not forget when we our state was erased a century ago,” Markovic said.

As he added, it took a century for Montenegro to restore its independence.

“We succeeded in 2006. Decades passed before we understood that the independence of a small country and a small nation cannot be taken for granted is not for all data,” the prime minister said. “

“The Paris in 1919 must not happen ever again. There will be no deciding about the fate our country behind our back ever again. We’ve got a lot of work to do to arrange things in our house according to European standards and let’s be decent but not forgetting the tradition,” said Markovic.
