Minister Radunović: Salaries won’t increase by the end of 2020

Darko Radunović

At yesterday’s session of the parliamentary Committee on Economy, Finances and Budget, Finance Minister Darko Radunović told the salaries won’t go up by the end of next year.

Responding to the question of SDP MP, Raško Konjević, the Minister said: “It is envisaged that salaries won’t increase by the end of 2020. We have already raised the minimum cost of work once, and then we announced a 9% increase in two important areas – health and education. These are not small expenditures. I wish we were able to make a greater increase, but for now what we have foreseen and promised is sustainable and I think we can achieve it. Every other offer would be unfair if we are not sure we can make it.“

Mr Konjević indicated that salaries should be increased not only in the health care system and education – the state budget will allocate around 20 million euro for these two areas – but in all other areas of public administration, including police. He especially pointed out to the fact that nearly 3,100 police officers are working for a €400-€500 monthly salary.

Minister Radunović, on the other hand, said better working conditions must be created in this sector.

“They [police officers] need to have better working conditions and should be paid for their effort not only during working hours but outside the traditional working hours,” Mr Radunović told during the session of the Committee.
