Ministry of Transport: Tara river flow hasn’t changed

Construction of huge and complex projects, such as the priority Bar-Boljare motorway section is, affects the environment to a certain extent, but that’s not just a challenge of our system but of every other modern society. Firm position of the Government of Montenegro is to take care of the environment protection to the maximum level possible, at the same time respecting prescribed legislation and standards, the Ministry of Transport and Maritime Affairs told to the weekend edition of Dnevne Novine daily.

Commenting on the allegations recently often heard in the media and some NGOs that the construction of the Smokovac-Mateševo section endangered Tara river and changed its flow regime, the Ministry emphasized that this media hype had political background and lacked concrete facts.

“The environment protection in the implementation of infrastructural projects represents one of the key issues, treated with special care, and the same applies to the construction of the Bar-Boljare motorway priority section Smokovac-Mateševo,” stated the Ministry, adding that flow regime of Tara river flow hasn’t changed but temporarily controlled within the same direction.

The Ministry also emphasized that the French-Italian Consortium Ingerop Conseil & Ingenierie – Geodata Engineering is a supervisory authority responsible for performing controls over construction works on this site and whether they are aligned with the main project, as well as with the whole range of relevant technical documentation.
