MJU establishes working group on PayPal matters

Bojana Bajić

Even after five years since the PayPal system has first been introduced, Montenegro citizens still cannot use this online payment service. However, the Ministry of Public Administration (MJU) clarified for CdM they are doing everything they can to change this. MJU says it’s going to set up a working group dealing only with this matter and that all the necessary requirements for receiving payments have already been met.

“In order to intensify the above-mentioned activities and reach an agreement with PayPal so that it finally enters the Montenegrin market, we decided to establish a working group consisting of the representatives of the public, business and civil sector. This WG will be resolving all the issues related to the PayPal system,” a chief officer of the Department for Interoperability of Registries and Normative Affairs within MJU, Ms Bojana Bajić, told CdM.

She noted that MJU had already communicated with PayPal Company and analyzed legal and all the other aspects that the state must ensure in order to introduce the PayPal system. In that sense, the Central Bank of Montenegro confirmed that all the formal requirements for using PayPal in Montenegro have been met.

Of all the Western Balkan countries, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Albania can send/receive payments by using PayPal, while Montenegro, North Macedonia and Kosovo can only send money.
