Montenegro committed to contributing to the Union for the Mediterranean

Montenegro strongly supports Union for the Mediterranean and the Road Map adopted in 2017, said Minister of Foreign affairs, Mr Srđan Darmanović, who took part in the 4th International Forum of the Union for the Mediterranean:“Paving the way forward”.

Mr Darmanović said in his address that Montenegro was committed to the improvement of cooperation in the region. He said that Montenegro was oriented towards adoption of highest standards in the field of environment protection.

Mr Darmanović took part in the margins of the Forum,  in the event organized to present key messages and main conclusions of the first scientific report on climate change and environment.

Talking about security threats and fight against terrorism, Mr Darmanović expressed satisfaction with signing Status agreement on the activities that fall within the competencies of FRONTEX.

Inaugural session was opened by Ms Federica Mogherini, Mr Josep Borrell, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Mr Ayman Safadi, Jordan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs. Priorities of the UfM  for the next year have been presented: environment protection, addressing climate change issues, economic growth and trade exchange, promotion of investments and creation of new jobs.

Ms Mogherini pointed at the need for creating safer world for all citizens. She praised WB progress and stressed the importance of the first Summit of the Arabian league and the EU, held in February this year.

Mr  Borrell stressed the importance of fight against human trafficking, suppressing populism and nationalism, interaction with civil society and inclusion of subjects that could contribute to solving aforementioned problems.

Mr Safadi emphasized the importance of human development and fight against terrorism, advocating for cultural dialogue and peace dialogue.
