Montenegro has become regional leader thanks to hard work and commitment

Our country secured the position as regional leader thanks to hard work and commitment, said chief negotiator, Mr Aleksandar Drljević at the meeting of the Subcommittee on economic and financial questions and statistics.

As General Secretariat of the Government communicated, representatives of the Ministry of Finance and other competent institutions to their EC counterparts information on the achieved progress in relation to covered chapters.

“We share our knowledge and experience with other countries and we do it with pleasure. Only stable Western Balkans can be regarded as respectable factor in the context of European perspective and full membership in the Union”, said Mr Drljević.

Mr Drljević said that all chapters covered by the Subcommittee had produced important results.

The meeting was co-presided by director general in the Ministry of Finance, Ms Bojana Bošković, and by Mr Uv Stham, head of the Economic and Financial Affairs Department in the Directorate General of the European Commission.

Mr Stham encouraged Montenegro to continue the process of fiscal consolidation, reform of tax system and structural reforms.

He praised undertaken activities in the process of the establishment of fiscal council and said he hoped the new Law on Labor would be adopted soon.

Deputy head of the Unit for Montenegro in the Directorate for Enlargement, Ms Barbara Jesus Gimeno  pointed out that there was a strong support for the enlargement process within the EU. She reminded that member states had decided to grant more than €1 billion to WB countries through IPA 2019-2020 programs.
