Montenegro must resolve status of its church

The Montenegrin Movement (in Montenegrin: Crnogorski pokret) last night in Ramada hotel presented the initiative requiring from the Montenegrin and Serbian government to set up a Commission in charge of calculating the damage inflicted on Montenegro by “Serbia’s hostility towards Montenegro during the First World War and the 1918 annexation”.

The initiative is going to be submitted to the presidents of states, prime ministers and parliaments of Montenegro&Serbia, as well as to the Serbian Orthodox Church, Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts and Matica Srpska.

One of the founders of the Montenegrin Movement, Slobodan Jovanović, at the meeting told the fact that the Montenegrin Orthodox Church ceased to exist a century ago represented “an act of violence”.

“That is why we ask the highest state bodies, the president of Montenegro, parliament and the government to take all the necessary steps to resolve the status of church in Montenegro, especially in the light of current events referring to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church,” emphasized Jovanović.

Jovanović clearly noted that Montenegro embraces all nations but it’s not a Serbian state.
