According to data of UNICEF, over the past 32 years, the infant mortality rate in Montenegro dropped, ie from 24% infant deaths per 1,000 live births in 1984 to 3.5% in 2016.

Montenegrin Ministry of Health, the Institute for Public Health and the NGO CAZAC claim this data has been expected having in mind all the positive changes in health care system, and in social and cultural plan as well. UNICEF collects annual data on infant mortality rate and in some countries, such as Australia, Bangladesh, Canada and Burkina Faso, this practice has started since 1950.

Based on this statistic, our country can brag about having the lowest infant mortality rate in the region.

And the statistic for the region shows:

Croatia’s infant mortality rate was at 4 deaths per 1,000 live births Serbia’s- 5.1 and Bosnia and Herzegovina’s – 5.2.

In Macedonia, the infant mortality rate was 10.7 deaths per 1,000 live births, whereas in Albania recorded the highest rate -12 deaths per 1,000 live births.
