Montenegro still perceived as an easy prey

Vladimir Vojinović

Regardless of various pressures we have been exposed to over the past few years and the fact the country’s safety was endangered, too weak attitude towards the identity issues sent a wrong message to all those perceiving Montenegro as an easy prey. That is why the current protests should not be neglected, because there are still those looking at our sovereignty as their own loss, Ph.D Vladimir Vojinović, a professor at the Faculty of the Montenegrin language and literature told in an interview for Dnevne Novine daily.

“I wouldn’t say that we finished our job in 2006. In that case, we wouldn’t have been in constant fear that Montenegro will be destroyed,” he estimated.

In his opinion, the best solution for Montenegro would be to preserve its multiethnic spirit and tolerance FOREVER, and to keep cherishing this unique type of coexistence.

“Regardless of our own perception of the current protests, we must not forget about two important facts. First – there are still those perceiving our sovereignty as their own loss, and second fact is that the protests have already been characterized as part of a broader regional wave. None of these facts is good for Montenegro,” stressed Mr. Vojinović.

On a journalist’s statement that the students of the University of Montenegro are again animated to go to the streets and join those who ask for fulfillment of the political requirements, Mr Vojinović told that he had left the University in 2014, and he now knows nothing about the state of play there so he was not able to speak of the reasons for students’ dissatisfaction.

“To be frank, there wasn’t a single reason for me to try to get familiar with the current situation at the University. On the other hand, I see all my students as my own children, and whenever I can, I advise them to stay away from the politics,” explained he.
