Montenegro still seeking the former CIA operative

Džozef Asad

Montenegrin state bodies still insist on revealing the role of Joseph Assad in an alleged Russia-backed coup attempt in October 2016 and will have intensive communication with the relevant US bodies, regarding his extradition.

According to Dnevne Novine daily, Montenegrin state bodies will primarily communicate with the State Department, Ministry of Justice as well as the US security bodies.

Joseph Assad yesterday rejected the charges, saying he had been in Montenegro ‘to provide personal security advice to a western political consultant’, and calling on the US to reject any extradition request.

The former CIA operative is accused of conspiracy to bring down Montenegro’s government and assassinate its then prime minister Milo Đukanović so that the Democratic Front (DF) can prevent Montenegro from joining NATO.

Last week, Montenegro issued an international arrest warrant for Joseph Assad.
