Montenegro to host next Conference of the Presidents of Parliaments of Small European States

President of  Montenegro’s Parliament, Mr Ivan Brajović, is taking part at the 13th Conference of the Presidents of the Parliaments of Small European States in Nicosia. Mr Brajović discussed challenges, possibilities and best practices of small states in digital era, inter-region cooperation, as well as role of parliaments in the cooperation of small European states in the context of rare diseases. He said he was very glad that Montenegro would be the host of this initiative.

“Topics we discussed are current and practical and that’s why we are interested to define, manners for mutual support in the achievement of set objectives after the Conference. We need sustainable, safe and useful solutions, to make sure our institutions function more efficiently, through rationalizing consumption, reducing unnecessary costs and increasing investment possibilities”, pointed out Mr Brajović.

He said that digital operation was a chance for small states to use their advantages and strengthen competitiveness to overcome shortcomings of “small numbers”, while at the same time building necessary infrastructure.

“High-quality state administration digitization model provides a citizen with the possibility for more direct engagement in the exercise of his/her rights. On the other side, institutions have more possibilities for increasing transparency and efficiency”, said Mr Brajović.

“Parliament of Montenegro is preparing establishment of e-parliament, which will enable electronic fulfillment of functions. Application of modern technologies and standards will digitize the entire legislative process, enabling efficient mechanism for cooperation among parties involved”, said Mr Brajović.

“Although complexities in the Western Balkans had an impact on the economic power of Montenegro, the fact that Montenegro is the most developed country in its regions is very important. It is a very attractive tourism and investment destination, recognized as the most stable country in the Southeast, committed to the development of stable neighborly relations. We are the most powerful promoter of Euro-Atlantic and European values in the region. Montenegro is developing excellent parliamentary, political and economic relations with many countries in other parts of the world. We are credible and reliable partner and a good example of political, economic, cultural and any other partnership”, said Mr Brajović.

He also touched on the contribution of parliaments in the cooperation of small European states in the domain of rare diseases, given the fact that around 350 million people in the world have been registered to have some rare disease (up to 30 million in Europe and around 30.000 cases in Montenegro.

President of the Chamber of Commerce of Montenegro, Mr Vlastimir Golubović, presented to the participants investment projects in the area of tourism, energy and information technologies.

In the margins of the conference, Mr Brajović and Mr Golubović, met with the president of the National Council of the Principality of Monaco, Mr Stephane Valeri, and president of the House of Representatives of Egypt, Dr Ali Abdel.

At the meeting with Mr Abdel, interlocutors stressed the importance of the establishment of more intense parliamentary cooperation.
