Montenegro will welcome up to 5 migrants

Vlada CG

The Government of Montenegro decided to accept the request of Italy and allow up to 5 migrants to disembark in Montenegro from the ship ‘Dicotti’, the Government tweeted today.

The decision on accepting migrants was made unanimously at today’s government session, thus confirming its commitment to the European system of values and readiness to affirm the dignity of people.

For a quick recap: Last week, Italy called on Montenegro to take in a number of migrants who disembarked at a port in Sicily after the Italian authorities kept them on the ship for days.

Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini, who leads the anti-migrant League party, thanked Albania for offering to help with migrants, agreeing to take 20 out of about 140 migrants stuck off the Italian coast. Meanwhile, Italians requested Montenegro and Serbia to take in some of the migrants.
