Director of the Institute for Public Health, Dr Boban Mugoša, said at the press conference today that specific measures aimed at curbing spread of the coronavirus had been taken at the state level.

He warned that current situation was a return to previous situation.

“We managed the first wave successfully. As expected, people got complacent. Specific number of people irresponsibly entered area where concentration of people was enormous and it was quite expected infection will appear”, Dr Mugoša pointed out.

Economy must re-start

According to Dr Mugoša, the task is to curb the spread of the virus in the time when Montenegro wants to open.

“Economy must restart. We must accept the fact that borders must be open, with caution and responsibility”, Dr Mugoša pointed out.

Dr Mugoša has no doubts that this fight will be successful and that everyone will assume their part of responsibility.

“The virus is here, with us. We must adhere to measures we adopted. Citizens are required to keep safe distance, take care of hygiene of hands and spaces and wear masks as prescribed”, Dr Mugoša said.

It is important to curb spread of the virus in municipalities where the potential of spreading is big.

18 patients in hospital for treatment

Dr Saša Radović, director of the Institute for Children’s Diseases, pointed out that we should strive for being coronavirus-free country.

“We need just a little bit more to bring about excellent health effect”, Dr Radović said.

He said 18 patients were in hospital.

“Six of them are in the Clinical Center of Montenegro. One patient is on ventilator and he is in critical condition”, Dr Radović pointed out.

Dr Radović said there are no children among infected persons.

Slowing down of the infection

Dr Mugoša hopes the infection will slow down.

“There were funerals, wedding ceremonies, along with imported cases, which led to the spread of the infection. Hopefully, we will be able to keep the situation under control and that spread of the virus will eventually slow down”, Dr Mugoša said.

Abuse of international agreements

Dr Mugoša warned that there had been examples of the abuse of international agreements, which had led to uncontrolled entrance of people from the risky regions.

“The situation really is serious, but we are taking adequate measures. I think we did the right thing”, Dr Mugoša pointed out.
