Although the Government of Montenegro has acknowledged the need for investing in healthcare system, not even a single EUR had been earmarked for increasing salaries of medical personnel, and that’s absolutely inadmissible, says the President of the Trade Union of Healthcare System within the Union of Free Trade Unions, Vladimir Pavićević.

The new Law on Salaries in Kosovo had envisaged the highest increase of salaries for all employees of the healthcare system.

“The fact that the salary of a nurse in Kosovo has been increased from €377 to €525, and the salary of a doctor from €661 to €1.195 speaks about a serious increase, by 60% on average. It’s also a clear intention of healthcare authorities to protect their healthcare system from the departures of their employees”, says Pavićević.

Montenegrin trade union members have also been working devotedly on increasing the salaries of medical personnel, but, unfortunately, those activities have stalled.

“It was due to some events in the trade union itself. At the end of 2017, I said to the Prime Minister that we were going to undertake activities aimed at bringing the wage of a nurse to a level of €420, and the wage of a specialist doctor to €850”, explained Pavićević.

The Trade union will direct its activities towards the increase in salaries and they will negotiate with the Ministry in charge in order to find the appropriate model for the increase.
