New beaches at the Montenegrin coast

Director of the Public Company for the Maritime Administration from Budva, Predrag Jelušić, announces the new categorization on Montenegrin beaches, which will come into force next year.

“The Strategy for Sustainable management of beaches proposes new categorization of bathing areas. So, from now on, apart from  and public bathing areas and those within hotels, we’ll have special bathing areas for targeted groups, in every seaside town in the country”, said Jelušić.

If everything goes according to the plan, around 359 bathing areas are going to be built.

Jelušić explains why the rehabilitation of beaches is needed and and if that process can be done naturally.

“Some beaches are not sufficiently managed in a sustainable way. The majority of them ins’t provided with enough sand and some of them, especially at the bay Boka Kotorska, needs constant work”, explains Jelušić.

He points out that natural sand dunes don’t exist and sea currents are constantly destroying the shore and taking the sand.

„Our tourism offer will be completed with the construction of new beaches especially in Bar and Herceg Novi. As far as temporary facilities are concerned, they deteriorate the overall look of the shore and the plan of the facilities of temporary character predicts their maximum reduction.
