New borrowings: €206m will be spent on…

Montenegro will borrow €206m this year, according to the decision on borrowings and providing guarantees in 2017. The country’s public debt has already reached over €2.3bn.

In a document published on the government’s website, all the projects and institutions from which Montenegro will borrow money are listed.

Most of the money, ie €80m, the country will borrow for the reconstruction of regional roads, whereas the lowest loan will be taken out for the development of rural infrastructure in rural areas – up to €4.5.

For reconstruction of regional roads in Montenegro, the country will borrow €40m from the European Investment Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development respectively.

Up to €35m will be borrowed from the German Development Bank. This money will be spent on the project “Construction of the wastewater treatment plant in the capital Podgorica”.

Two helicopters will be bought for the Ministry of Defence and the country will buy €30m for that through the loan or leasing arrangement.

The country will also borrow €15m for the construction of the prison in Bijelo Polje from the Development Bank of the Council of Europe.

Two loans amounting to €6m and €7m will be borrowed from the German Development Bankfor the project “Water Supply and Sanitation Adriatic Coast stage 5 and 2”.

For a medical accelerator and other medical equipment, €11,800,000 will be borrowed through a loan or leasing arrangement.

The Council of Europe’s Development Bank will lend Montenegro €10m for the project of solving housing issues of citizens under favourable terms (Project 1000+ Flats).

For the project “Energy Efficiency Program in Public Buildings” €7m will be borrowed from the German Development Bank (KfW),

In addition, the government decided that €48m may be spent for guarantees, with the obligation of providing collateral to the state.

Railway Infrastructure, Montenegrin Power Transmission System (CGES) and the Montenegrin Coast will get guarantees for loans.
