Podgorica is a city that has been recognized and positioned as a destination for business and congress tourism for years, but has become attractive in terms of tourism as well, being the capital of the country where tourism represents the main economic benefit and strategic orientation. Director of the Podgorica Tourism Organization, Ms Tatjana Popović, told Dnevne Novine daily that this city has been perceived as being dynamic throughout the whole year and open for all the visitors.

“Speaking about Podgorica as a tourism destination, I’m pleased to say that the capital is turning into a tourist hotspot,” Ms Popović said.

This has been confirmed by tourist numbers for the first five months of the year when 57,040 tourists visited the capital, which is by 4.47% higher compared to the same period last year, while there were 97,344 tourist overnights, which is by 13.16% higher compared to 2018.

“The figures obviously suggest tourists are staying longer in our city and that Podgorica is becoming an attractive tourism destination with improvements in amenity value,” Ms Popović emphasized.

What the capital lacks, according to her, is an innovative approach in designing programs for visitors – for individuals and groups as well.
