Police managed to prevent 39 murders in four years

Since 2015, Police Department officers have managed to prevent 39 murders. According to the data delivered to Dan, most murders were prevented last year.

Organized criminal clans from Kotor, known as “škalajrski” and “kavački”, were suspected of planning the majority of murders in recent years. The war between these two organizations began in 2014, when 200 kg of cocaine disappeared in Valencia.

During 2015, police officers prevented five murders and in 2016 one murder. Thanks to police activities 7 murders were sabotaged in 2017 and even 21 in 2018. In the first six months of this year, five murders were prevented. Police Department officers couldn’t tell if targets were members of opposed clans from Kotor.

Criminal offences were supposed to be committed as part of the clash between criminal groups operating in Montenegro, and which are part of wider regional structures.

Murders were prevented by preventive, proactive and repressive activities aimed against actions of opposed criminal organizations. Representatives of Criminal Police sector undertook activities, in cooperation with other organization units of Police Department and competent prosecutor’s offices.

Most murders were prevented in 2018, when members of three criminal organizations were arrested. As Special State Prosecutor’s Office assumes, mafia organizations were organized by Ranko Radulović from Nikšić, Igor Vukotić from Kotor and citizen of Albania, Erogen Brajović. According to the investigation order, their targets were Chief Special Prosecutor, Mr Milivoje Katnić and his son. They also planned to kill Marko and Vladimir Vilotijević and Duško Roganović, as well as former members of National Security Agency, Mr Zoran Lazović and Mr Duško Golubović.
