Primary education reform not very good

“It’s necessary to change plans and programs of teaching in elementary schools and children should start staying in schools all day so that they can get the most quality education. The existing reform did nothing. At least nothing good” , says the academician Slobodan Backović, who is the director of  the education board of the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts.

He held a lecture yesterday on the changes in the education system and his primary focus was on the elementary schools in our country. He thinks that children in elementary and secondary schools don’t have any functional knowledge and that they’re not able to apply what they learn.

„Almost the half of the population of students and pupils isn’t legible in the functional sense, and it worries me. They even finish universities and then, when they get the job, they don’t know what they’re doing. They read but they don’t know what they read“, says Backović.

In order to change something, Backović said that the biggest effect would be reached if the efficiency of the teachers increased. He also pointed out the importance of the equipment in schools and efficiency of the directors of schools. He also thinks that the education reform was wrong and conducted in a careless way.
